Santa Claus is coming to town this Friday!
The annual Rainy River Santa Claus parade and activities will be this Friday evening.
Rainy River’s Mayor Debbie Ewald will kick things off at about 5:55 p.m. beside Gillons Insurance on Main Street. The public is invited to gather around the town Christmas tree next to Gillons and count down the lighting of the tree by the Mayor.
Following the lighting of the tree the parade of lights will begin at the bottom of Main Street at 6 p.m. Floats will feature lit displays and many treats for kids as they pass by. Bringing up the rear will be Santa and Mrs. Claus. The parade route will take them North up Main St. to Broadway Ave. It will then turn East and travel to the Rainy River Community Centre/Arena.
At the Community Centre free hotdogs and hot chocolate will be served by the RR Recreation Board who will also offer a free skate that evening. Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with kids taking note of all their wishes and then giving every child a treat bag.
If the weather permits a bon fire in the Community Centre parking lot is planned.
This event will kick off the Christmas season in and around Rainy River. Saturday evening the McInnes Creek Chapel annual Christmas supper and carolling will be held at 4:30 p.m. as will the annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas party at the RR Legion that evening.
On Sunday, Dec. 2nd the Rainy River Hospital Auxilliary’s annual Christmas Bazaar and Tea will be held at the Community Centre at 1 p.m.
The Rainy River Community Choir will be holding its first Christmas Concert of the season on Monday in Pinewood at the Catholic Church at 7:30 p.m. They will be in Rainy River for another concert on the following Sunday, Dec. 9th at 2 p.m.
