LoW and Dawson get grants to improve roads

Two local townships were awarded $100,000 each for improvements to infrastructure.
Minister of Northern Development and Mines and Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) Chair Jim Wilson announced Lake of the Woods and Dawson townships will each receive funding for road upgrades and other projects.
Lake of the Woods will use the funding for upgrades to Luft Road, Tote Road, Frenchman1s Rock Road and Lakewood Drive. A better well water supply will also be tapped, and new fire fighting equipment will be purchased. The total cost of the project is $133,300.
The township of Dawson will be upgrading Olsen Road, Belro Lane, Wilson Creek Road, and Byrnes Road. As well, a municipal garage will be converted into a fire hall, the heating system will be improved, and a new non-potable well for filling fire trucks will be tapped. The total cost of this project is also $133,300.
“We’ve got our own funding in place for the other portion so we1ll be starting soon,” Dawson and Lake of the Woods town clerk Pat Giles said.
