Nault announces $75,000 for WHO conference
News Release - May 3, 2002
Kenora-Rainy River Member of Parliament Bob Nault, today announced $75,000 in federal funding to the Rainy River Valley Safety Coalition. This funding is designed to highlight the region in conjunction with the World Health Organization Conference being held in Fort Frances, May 7-9, 2002.
“This conference not only gives the Rainy River District an opportunity to become a world leader in community based safety, but also supports local tourism and economic development,” said Nault. “This event will showcase the area to delegates from around the world.”
The Rainy River Valley Safety Coalition is working with the Rainy River Future Development Corporation (RRFDC) to help promote the district to over 300 international delegates from over 30 countries from across the world. The Coalition and the RRFDC also plan to use the conference as an economic development opportunity for the district by creating a Safety Institute to teach others how to become safe communities.
“We appreciate the Government of Canada’s assistance in this large undertaking,” said
Doug Anderson, Chair of the Rainy River Valley Safety Coalition. “This is a great opportunity to feature the Rainy River District to the world as a place to come and visit, do business and live.”
“I’m extremely proud of the fact that this group of committed volunteers, from both the Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal communities have been working for years to make this World Conference a reality,” concluded Nault. “Given that in a national competition the Rainy River District was awarded this event, shows the tremendous efforts that this committee put forward in ensuring their success.”
