Richard J. "Ted" Hughes, 88
Richard J. Hughes (Ted) age 88 years passed away at the Riverside Health Centre, Rainy River, Ont on Saturday January 19, 2008.
Ted was born on June 14, 1919 in Rainy River, Ont to the late Wallace and Ivy Hughes. He served his country in the Royal Army Service Corp, attached to the Forestry Corp. Ted served in the north of Scotland, were he met Jessie Cay, who at that time was serving in the (ATS)( Auxiliary Territorial Service). They were married in Inverness, Scotland, May 1945 and moved to Canada in 1946, settling in Rainy River.
Ted worked for Emery Miller for many years transporting fish to Ranier from Morson and continued later with Norm Dalseg. Ted also provided janitorial services at the Rainy River High School until he retired at the age of 65.
His retirement years were attributed to his love of gardening, and watching and feeding the birds.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Jessie of sixty- two years, his three sisters Judy Dimit of Red Lake, Ont; Nancy Shaw; and Doris (Jim) Herkes all of Fort Frances, Ont. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Ted was also predeceased by his sister Betty Luckasavitch, and three brothers Wallace (Bubs), Bill and Victor Hughes and two nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the St. James Anglican Church, Rainy River, Ont on Tuesday January 22, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Eileen Bragg officiating. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Rainy River, Ont.
