Baudette Hockey Classic is this Saturday

Hockey Day Minnesota debuted on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, with 11 hours of programming, including four live hockey telecasts. It is designed as a celebration of the game from peewees to pros. The telecast this year begins at 9 a.m., with programming anchored from Xcel Energy Center by FSN North’s Marney Gellner. It will conclude with a delayed broadcast of the Blaine versus Roseau game from Lake of the Woods’ Baudette Bay from 11 PM-1:30 AM.
“Hockey fans have been eagerly anticipating the return of Hockey Day Minnesota,” FSN North Senior Vice President and General Manager Mike Dimond said. “We are energized to capitalize on this opportunity and demonstrate our loyalty to the state of hockey and the Minnesota Wild with additional programming designed to capture the unique history, flavor and passion of the sport.“
Live game action begins at 10 AM with Eveleth taking on Lake of the Woods outdoors at Lake of the Woods’ Baudette Bay. Calling the action from Baudette Bay will be FSN North’s Anthony LaPanta and Kevin Gorg.
The second game of the day features St. Thomas Academy and Hill Murray live from Xcel Energy Center at 1 PM, with Wild play-by-play man Dan Terhaar and analyst Mike Greenlay calling the action.
The third live broadcast will feature the Wild and New York Islanders from Xcel Energy Center at 5 PM, with Terhaar and Greenlay behind the microphones again. The Wild game will be followed by the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers at the University of Denver at 8 PM FSN North’s regular Golden Gophers broadcast team of Frank Mazzocco (play-by-play) and Doug Woog (analyst) will call the game.
The fifth and final game will be the delayed broadcast of Blaine and Roseau from Baudette Bay. FSN North, in conjunction with the Wild, will also produce features and vignettes including unique and fun-filled hockey stories.
Schedule of Events
*9 AM: Gates/Vendors Open, Hockey Day Minnesota Broadcast begins from Willie Walleye Park.
*All day starting at 9 AM: Willie Walleye Park will come alive with a winter carnival atmosphere that will encompass things like snow sculptures, resort comopetitions, hole drilling competitions, kid’s games including an ice fishing game, puck shoot, snowman building, sledding, snow painting and races. We are also hoping for a unique fish house display and more. Carnival events will continue through the evening hours.
*10 AM: Game one on Baudette Bay will feature Lake of the Woods vs. Eveleth; the game will be broadcast in its entirety.
*1:30 PM: Game two on Baudette Bay will feature the defending state champion Roseau Rams vs. Blaine, the game will have cut-in features from other hockey programming and be rebroadcast in its entirety later in the day.
*5 PM: The outdoor Rink on the Baudette Bay will once again be active with hockey activity, this time the Old-Timers take to the ice. This game is expected to feature significant hockey talent from our past including former NHL stars and Olympians.
*6 PM: Luminary Cross Country Ski on Baudette Bay.
*7:30 PM: The outdoor rink will be transformed to a “Rockefeller Center” open skate, complete with music, hot chocolate, Christmas lights, a bon fire and more!
*7:45 PM: Fireworks Show
*9:00 PM- 12 PM: Open Hockey, rink will be available for pick-up games for people of all ages. Bon-fire continues.
*11 PM: Rebroadcast of Roseau vs. Blaine game on FSN.
