Track teams off to state

This weekend track and field competitors from Rainy River High School and Lake of the Woods High School will make history when they travel to the Twin Cities to compete in the True Team State Track Meet.
The True Team meet started a number of years ago when an individual captured gold in four events and literally won the entire state meet. Coaches of the day thought it would be great to create a state meet in which the team as a whole had to do well to win the meet. That is where True Team came from.
LoW Coach Brian Novak said Monday that this has been an incredible year for the members of both the girls and boys teams in Baudette. Not only did they compete at the True Team Section 8A meet in Deer River, both teams won and hence are both heading to the True Team State meet this weekend.
In addition to the True Team accomplishment they have been busy attending track meets around the area and last Tuesday hosted one in Baudette.
At home the school finished 2nd behind International Falls. The results are as follows:
Boys 3200m run
Matt Neilson (of RRHS) came in 3rd with a time of 11:50.76.
Boy’s Triple Jump
Mike Hull (of LoWHS) came in 2nd with a jump of 35’4’’.
In the Boys 4X400m relay the team caem in second with a time of 3:41.44.
Boys 300m hurdles
Mike Hull (LoW) came in 3rd with a time of 48.32.
Boy’s 800m run
Cooper M. (LoW) came in 3rd with a time of 2:15.94.
Boy’s 200m dash
The top two spots went to Ben Hopkins and Leonard M. (both of LoW) with times or 23.4 and 23.96.
In boys 4X200m relay LoW came in first with a time of 1:36.5.
In boys 400m dash Weston Dornhecker (LoW) came in 1st with a time of 53.5. Matt Neilson (RRHS) came in 5th with a time of 57.68.
Boys 100m dash
Ben Hopkins (LoW) came in 1st with a time of 11.4.
In Boys 4X800 relay LoW came in 4th with a time of 9:42.07.
Girls 4X800m relay
The LoW team came in 2nd with a time of 10:59.2.
Girls 100m Dash
Shauna McInerney (RRHS) came in 2nd with a time of 13.43.
Bobbie Larson (LoW) came in 4th and Brittany Jasper (RR) came in 5th with times of 14.4 and 14.42.
In girls 4X200 relay LoW came in 1st with a time of 1:55.85.
Girls Discus
Annie Gubbels (LoW) came in 2nd with a throw of 100’ 2”.
Girls 400m dash
Elyse Dornhecker (LoW) came in 2nd with a time of 1:07.18.
Girls 4X100m relay
LoW came in 1st wtih a time of 54.1.
Girls 200m dash
Shauna McInerney (RRHS) came in 1st with a time of 26.99. Brittany Jasper (RR) came in 5th with a time of 30.4.
Girls 3200m run
Shantelle Davidson (RR) came in 1st with a time of 11:58.75.
Girls 4X400m relay
The team came in 3rd with a time of 4:44.
Girls Long Jump
Shauna McInerney came in 1st with a jump of 15’1.5”.
Athena Pirkl (RR) came in 3rd with a jump of 14’2.5”.
Warren Meet
May 10th
The LoW Boys finished 4th overall and the girls finished 5th.

LoW finished 3rd with a time of 10:35.9.
Girls Long Jump
Shauna McInerney finished 2nd with a jump of 14’11”.
Girls 4X200m relay
LoW finished 2nd with a time of 1:53.41.
Girls 4X100m relay
LoW finished 3rd with a time of 54.46.
Girls 200m dash
Shauna McInerney finished 1st with a time of 27.48.

Shantelle Davidson finished first with a time of 11:39.29.
Boys 400m dash
Weston Dornhecker finished 2nd with a time of 52.98.
Boys 200m run
Ben Hopkins of LoW came in 1st with a time of 23.54.
Boys 100m dash
Ben Hopkins finished 1st with a time of 11.97.
Boys 1600m run
Matt Neilson finished 3rd with a time of 5:01.96
The school competed in Roseau last night, however results were not available at press time.
