Police investigate video, no charges laid
News Release
O.P.P.
(Fort Frances, Ontario) On February 14th, 2008 members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and Treaty Three Police Service were called upon to investigate the content of a video that had been posted on an Internet website.
Following a police investigation, it was determined that the video created by the local youths was not criminal in nature and there will be no criminal charges laid in relation to the video. The video has since been removed from the Internet website.
The OPP would like to remind young people and their families of the need to understand the reach of technology. Creating a video and uploading it to an Internet forum can have many consequences and once a video or picture is on the Internet it is virtually impossible to get it back. Young people also need to understand that their actions have consequences and that in particular cases, certain behaviours are inappropriate and can be very hurtful to others.
Since all of those responsible for the video and students at Fort Frances High School, police will continue to monitor the situation and work with school officials to address any concerns.
