Eva Marie Lowes, 90
Peacefully on February 25, 2008, Eva M. Lowes of Rainy River, Ont passed away at the age of 90. Eva was born in Baudette Mn, on April 29, 1917, the daughter of Edward and Florence Kearney.
Eva was united in marriage to Albert (Ab) Lowes in 1935 in International Falls, Mn. Eva and Ab opened a grocery and general store in Sleeman, Ont in 1937 and also sold Rawleigh products in the Rainy River District. They also operated the very first mail route to Bergland, Ont. Their business later expanded to include lumber, hardware, furniture and appliances. In 1973 Eva and Ab retired and spent their winters in McAllen, Tx.
Eva is survived by daughter Dixie (Harvey) Vellieux of Edmonton, Alb; son Ray (Marion) of Fort Frances, Ont, and Dale (June) of Rainy River, Ont, brother Lorne (Hazel) Kearney of Winnipeg, MB, as well as 11 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and many friends.
Eva was predeceased by her husband Ab on Feb 17, 1983, her parents Edward and Florence Kearney, her brother Norman, and sister Ella Prystayko.
During her life time, Eva was a valued member of St. James Anglican Church, The Order of the Eastern Star, and Kinnettes.
A Celebration of Eva’s Life will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 from the St. James Anglican Church, Rainy River, Ont at 11 a.m. with Pastor Glen Armstrong officiating.Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Rainy River, Ont at a later date.
Hounourary Pall Bearers will be Brent Lowes, Darren Lowes, Chris Lowes, Mike Lowes, Doug Vellieux and Aaron Lowes.
