Bruce Hague, 82

It is with great sadness that the family of Bruce Hague announce his sudden passing on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, Saskatchewan. Bruce was born in Regina on May 19, 1925 at the Regina General Hospital. He grew up on a dairy farm on Dewdney Avenue across from the RCMP Depot Division. He attended Benson School and Balfour Technical Institute.
He started his working career with the CPR but left there to work for the CNR in 1944 at the age of nineteen years; by the age of twenty-four he had worked his way from fireman to engineer, the youngest in Canada at that time. He worked for the CNR for forty-one years; his last run was on July 1, 1985. Bruce worked in Regina, Rainy River, ON and Melville. While working in Rainy River, he, his engineer and brakeman, were awarded a commendation for saving a man who was in difficulty on Rainy River. Bruce, Inez and family moved to Melville in 1957. Bruce worked for the CNR and started a greenhouse in the backyard of their Scotia Street home in 1964. The greenhouse soon grew and was moved to a site on Hwy 10 at Banner Road. The greenhouse operated for 39 years until 2003. Bruce was involved with the Melville Horticultural Society as a member, president and life member. His other interests included fishing and hunting water fowl and deer. For close to thirty years, Bruce and Inez enjoyed annual trips to Hawaii where they enjoyed the company of wonderful friends.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Hilda (nee Baker) Hague; brothers, Fred, Douglas, Harry and Alfred; brother-in-law, Norman Hubick and nephew, Donn Hague. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 62 years, Inez; four sons and their families: Harry (Cynthia) of Saanichton, BC and daughters, Aynsley, Ceilidah and Avril; Laurie (Elaine) of Brooks, AB and their family, Sherry (Paul) Deines (and children, Rebecca and Samantha), Stacey and Ryan; Les (Sandra) of Yorkton and their three sons, Darryl (Bonnie) and daughter, Chloe, Jason and Michael; Doug (Leonora) of Regina and son, Chris. Also surviving Bruce is his sister, Mary Hubick of Weyburn.
The funeral service was held Thursday, February 28, 2008 in the chapel of St. Paul Lutheran Home with the Rev. Kim Sherwin officiating with Rev. Phil Schwindt, Chaplin of St. Paul Lutheran Home, participating. The eulogy was given by daughters-in-law Sandra and Leonora Hague. Everyone in attendance was considered an honorary pallbearer. Interment will take place in the Melville Municipal Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
