Proud to live in Canada

Letter to the Editor,
My name is Vaughn Murray and I am Métis and proud of my Heritage! Being Racist, to me is not a new issue in this country or any other country. It has been going on for hundreds of years and will continue for hundreds more.
The racism I have encountered in my life has been done mostly in fun and in jokes and not about First Nations People but of all nationalities living in Canada.
The half dozen Fort Frances High School girls that were videoed dancing to native drums with a beer in hand is not something new. I have done this myself with no disrespect to First Nations People, just for “Fun” - the same as Hip Hop, Rap, or Rock’n’Roll.
My dad and his brothers fought in WWII and the Korean War to keep Canada “Free” and a great place to live as did many other men and women whether of First Nation blood, Irish Blood, Scottish blood, Hungarian or English or French blood - - you get my point! Many Immigrants came to Canada after to start better lives for themselves and their families - not changing the Laws/Religion of this Country to their old country - they should be proud to live in Canada under Canadian Laws/Religion.
The worst form of Racism is not funny and very hurtful for a long time - maybe lasting forever!
My hat goes off to every man and woman who has fought for our country - Canada - to keep it free!!
My overall conclusion is to be Proud that we live in Canada - a melting pot of all nations - not just one nation.
In ending, quoting from a First Nations Prayer -
I seek strength, not to be Greater than my brother, but to fight my Greatest enemy, “MYSELF”!
Let’s practice what we preach!
Yours truly,
Vaughn Murray
