Four youngsters from Rainy River will be making their acting debuts this week in Baudette as they play roles in Charolette’s Web, being presented by Pequana Playhouse at the Lake of the Woods School.
Amber Haglund, 19, of Baudette is directing her first play after having been in a number of plays both with Pequana Playhouse and Warroad Summer Theatre.
She is being assisted by Linda Beller of Rainy River, who has three of her sons in the production.
Jeremy, Jordan and Braedon Beller as well as Deidre Wilson are from Canada and are part of the 26 member cast.
Haglund said that they took auditions May 12, 2001 and started practising almost immediately. They have been doing so every week night for about two hours. Some of the actors have been coming in early to do snap-lines with Linda Beller. Snap lines are the saying of one’s lines very fast to help them master them.
This play being a dramatic story is more difficult than a comedy is for kids to pull off. However, Haglund said that all the kids are doing very well at mastering their dramatic roles. She is confident when the curtain rises this Thursday that the audience will be in for a real treat. Shows run Thursday to Saturday at 7 p.m. in the LoW School Auditorium. Tickets are available at the door and Haglund said that there is plenty of seating.
