Last Thursday was graduation day for the students of the Rainy River Playschool.
To cap the year off they went to Hannam Park where they played, did crafts and had a lunch.
Teacher Diane Short said that they averaged about seven kids at the twice weekly program, held at the Toy Library. Licensed for 15 kids, they had as many as 10 this year. The program is less structured than kindergarten but does teach the kids things like colours and animals through activities such as unstructured play and crafts. “The approach is through play and songs.”
They also went on several field trips this year to the post office, the fire hall, a farm, the bakery and the library.
The students are 2.5 to 5 years of age and school president Crystal Lindal hopes that they can get even more kids out next year. They hope to have an open house in the near future and begin registering students for the fall.
“The time away from home helps teach the kids to respect other adult authority as well as how to better interact with other kids,” said Lindal.
