Most of the legal costs to the Town of Rainy River in the wrongful dismissal suit involving former town clerk Deb Bowman were absorbed by the Town’s insurance.
According to current Town Clerk Veldron Vogan they were as follows, “As of March 31, 2008 insurance has covered $250,000 and the Town paid directly $37,055.”
In an email to Vogan Monday morning by councillor Gord Armstrong he said, “I hope people understand this amount was for our Lawyer cost, and other legal things, this is not what was given as a settlement, I don’t think people should think Deb (Bowman received) this much money. What she (received) is confidential as part of the Settlement agreement."
Bowman was terminated Jan. 30, 2006. However, last week, as per a mutually agreed upon settlement between Bowman and the Town, her termination was repealed. She was also granted authorized leave until her retirement on Oct. 3, 2007.
