James Leonard Selman, 84
James Leonard Selman of Stratton, Ont, passed away on May 10, 2008. He was born on August 7, 1923 to the late Carman and Mary Selman of Gameland, Ont. Leonard married his bride Sylvia (Sally) Archutick on April 18, 1951.
In just a few years they were blessed with five children, four of which were daughters, Carolyn (Calvin) Stafford of Stratton, Ont, Rosemary (Garry) Tetu of Rainy River, Ont, Sandra (Andre) Albert of Rexton, New Brunswick, Shelley Selman of Winnipeg, Man, and son Carman (Debbie) Selman of Saskatoon, Sk.
He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Leonard also leaves behind his sister Beatrice Medwechuk of Gameland, and brother Irvin Selman of Rainy River and many sister and brother in-laws. Leonard was predeceased by his parents, brothers Howard and Arnold Selman and sister Evelyn Neilson.
In the early part of his life Leonard was proud yet very humble of his years of service with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles/Little Black Devils and his time spent overseas during World War 2. Together with Sally he spent time as a logger, farmer, trapping and doing various other jobs, while residing in North Branch, Stratton and Barwick before they retired back to Stratton. Leonard was passionate about his life enjoying time spent with his family, camping for most of his summers, fishing and always playing the violin. Len and Sally traveled with their camper to both the west and east coasts several times. As well as attending many fiddle festivals in Manitoba, enjoying the musical performances and going to dances.
A memorial service will be held at the Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, Ont on Wednesday May 14, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will take place in Pine Ridge Cemetery, North Branch, Ont at later time. Honourary Pall Bearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he was always so proud of.
