The 33rd Rainy River Open Golf Tournament is set to tee off this Sunday, August 3rd!
This year the tournament has been moved to the newly opened golf course near Morson, Spruce Creek!
Tournament organizer Bob McGreevy said, “We wanted to support the Pentneys and this is an excellent course in good condition.”
The tournament was held in Baudette last year and had been held in Warroad and Fort Frances at different times over its life span.
The tournament will remain a one day event with two rounds of nine holes beginning shortly after registration ends. Registration at the course will be held from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m.
Last year the shot gun start saw 48 golfers participate. McGreevy is hopeful that they will have even more golfers. The Championship flight is open to anyone who lives, has lived or attended school in Rainy River. All other flights are wide open for anyone to enter. It costs $25 for the championship flight, $20 for regular flights and $10 for kids to enter regular flights.
Spruce Creek has plans to offer food and beverages in a fenced in courtyard just outside their club house.
There is no need to pre-register but if people would like to golf together, they are asked to let the registration desk know when they arrive and “We will do the best we can to put you together,” said McGreevy.
McGreevy feels the new course may attract some new participants this year noting, “I have had calls from people in Thunder Bay interested in the tournament this year!”
It is open to both men and women and kids as well.
Spruce Creek is located just south of Morson on Hwy. 621. There are signs on the road. The course held its grand opening earlier this summer and has received many accolades from golfers.
