It is bass bustin time in Morson this weekend!
The 4th Morson Bass International (MBI) is shaping up to be another exciting event and it all happens under the big tent at the Morson Government Dock at the end of Highway 621.
Event organizers are confident that the field will continue to grow this year beyond last years total of 37. There are still slots left to meet that goal so anyone interested in getting in on the action should log onto the MBI website at www.morsonbass.com and fill out an entry form.
The past two years has seen tournament diehards Mark Pentney/Doug Vandersteen and Terry Gill/Chad Hanson volley the championship back and forth with each of them winning or coming second. Who will be crowned this year is yet to be seen, but it is sure to be extremely competitive.
The MBI committee is really pleased with the way things have come together this year. “It takes a lot of planning, coordination and volunteers to put this event on each year,” stated Vice President Terry Gill. “We feel the committee organizes a great event with lots of fun for anglers, spectators and kids. We appreciate the generosity of our sponsors and our volunteers.”
Friday night starts the event with a pork roast supper that is complimentary for the tournament anglers and is being served by the Morson Women’s Institute branch. After the meal, the rules meeting is held to ensure each team understands how boats will depart, return and the prizes that are to be won.
This year those teams that were paid in full by the early bird deadline will have a chance to win a Minn-Kota trolling motor with the drawing taking place that evening. Again this year a WC 14 ft Lund boat will be given away to one lucky angler.
Saturday will start off with a breakfast and boat checks. Anyone wanting to see the boats taking off will need to be there before 7:30 am when the first flight of boats will leave.
Those wanting to play Bingo should arrive at 11 a.m. in order to get in the early bird game that starts at 12 noon sharp. The Bergland Friends of Recreation will be giving away $800 cash during the Bingo event. The boats will return that afternoon with weigh-ins to start at approximately 3:30 p.m.. Saturday night will have a Variety Show of local talent and music in the beer gardens.
Each day will have things for the kids to do. Saturday will have booths for boater safety and boater education with free stuff for kids and the always popular kids Mini Fishing Tournament will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday on the Government Dock. Registration starts at 12 noon and fishing at 12:30 for those kids old enough to hold a fishing pole and younger than 14. There is no charge for kids to enter and there will be plenty of awesome prizes again this year. The young anglers should be wearing a PDF or life jacket and bring a fishing pole to participate.
Silent auction items will be on display each day. An autographed print, set of embossed pocket knives, kids items, fishing accessories are just some of the things that will be available for bidding. The bids end on Sunday just after the final weigh-ins. Of course there will be lots of food and beverages available both days.
Weigh-ins are Sat. at 3 p.m. and final weigh-ins are Sun. at the same time. The tournament will wrap up with prize presentations at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
