Morson W.I. buys picnic tables for bass tournament usage

Morson Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting July 24 at the Buena Vista with 13 members present and one guest. The Mary Stewart Collect was read with grace. The call to order started the meeting and the door prize draw of collapsible food containers was won by Carol. Pratt. Roll call was completed with members giving their volunteer hours and the minutes from the last meeting were read. There are 18 members in the Morson branch.
Old business: Tuesday August 12th at the Morson Hall is the date and place set for making cookies for the Morson Bass International supper. Silent Auction items for the tournament will be sorted and labeled. A craft demonstration will also take place.
New business: An executive meeting was held earlier to review the purchase of picnic tables to be used by the Morson Bass International (MBI) tournament. Motion made by Rosemary Levens and seconded by Kristine Carpenter and passed during the meeting to purchase 3 picnic tables. These tables will be the property of the Morson Women’s Institute but stored with the other MBI tournament tables. Also discussed was the need to recognized 4 active members as Women’s Institute Life Members for those that have 25 or more years of service in the branch. Motion made and carried to order pins and certificates for these members: Katie Pentney, Laurie Pentney, Barb Zebleckis and Betty Bartlett. Joan Moen to order pins and certificates.
Carol Pratt reviewed details and the list of volunteers needed to serve the angler supper and work the food concessions and silent auction tables during the MBI. Kristine Carpenter gave her report on the Pioneer Museum in Emo.
The old museum building has been sold. The 40th anniversary of the museum event was held earlier in July and memberships were sold, the adopt an artifact program made progress and quilt tickets were sold.
The supper and breakfast served to the David Thompson Brigade was a boost for the museum building project. Several members of the Brigade commented on how delicious the meals were and how appreciative they were for the hard work by the volunteers.
The museum will continue the flea market and accepts donated items 9 to 5 Monday through Friday each week.
The Dance Community Hall is applying for a grant to write a history book about the devastating fire that took place years ago and the book would be make available for sale.
The museum continues to have “kid’s day” on each Monday with birdhouses and old fashioned games on the schedule.
The next meeting of the Morson W.I. will be Aug 28th.
