Perry Johnson Archie, 61
Perry Johnson Archie 61 of Rainy River First Nations passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB.
Perry was born on July 27, 1947 at Big Grassy First Nation, ON to James and Maggie Archie. He had worked as a guide in Morson and Nestor Falls and was a carpenter at Big Island First Nation. He also ran the Cedar Island Tourist Resort. He enjoyed playing drums, fishing, golfing, playing cards and keno. He also enjoyed visiting and spending time with his buddies and reading western novels. He also used to be a traditional dancer and enjoyed singing at Pow Wows. He was always laughing and telling a joke and was a very humorous man.
Perry is survived by his partner Gladys DeBungie,. and his children, Georgina, Dallas, Daniel, Royce and Samantha and their mother Janet Bluebird, his step-children, Elvis and Wesley DeBungie, sisters Sally Hawk and Virginia Archie, both of Big Grassy First Nation and Verna (Mark) Aquash of Duluth, MN brother James W. Archie of Ottawa, numerous grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews
He was predeceased by his parents James and Maggie Archie and sister Margaret Archie.
A traditional service was held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Community Hall. Elder Peter White officiated followed by interment in the Big Grassy First Nation Cemetery.
A wake was held on Monday, August 18, 2008 from 3 p.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Community Hall.
The pallbearers were Elvis DeBungie, Wesley DeBungie, Robert Handorgan, Jamie Archie, John Copenace and Robert Morrison.
The honourary pallbearers were Gary Tuesday Sr., Clifford Tuesday, Albert Handorgan, Pat Handorgan, James Archie Jr., Mark Aquash, Jessie Archie and Robin Tuesday.
