On Monday September 8, Brent McQuaker from Hydro One Networks, Fort Frances, was in Stratton to present the Stratton Recreation Society with a cheque for $1200.00. The grant from Hydro One’s PowerPlay program was awarded for improvements to Stratton’s Outdoor Rink.
Items that will be upgraded include plastic liners around the rink edge to help retain water during the flooding process, gravel for leveling, a new rink door, and replacement of some of the perimeter boards.
The successful application for this grant was largely from the efforts of former Rec Society president, Candy Teeple, says current president, Shelley MacDonald.
“We are very appreciative of the work Candy put into it,” added MacDonald.
As well as an outdoor rink, the Stratton Community Centre complex, boasts ball diamonds, play areas, memorial trees, a licensed lounge, a curling rink with artificial ice, and a large meeting hall with complete catering facilities.
According to the Hydro One PowerPlay website, “Grants of up to $25,000 are available for capital projects for community centres, indoor or outdoor ice rinks, playgrounds, splash pads, sports fields — facilities where the primary purpose is to support children’s community sports and active play. Applications for new facilities and the renovation of existing facilities will be considered. Additional funding may be available where energy efficiency measures are incorporated into the project.”
