Antonietta Delvecchio, 88

With family by her side, Antonietta Dolce Delvecchio passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, at the age of 88.
Nettie, as she was known, was born on June 12, 1920 in Ripabottoni, Italy, to Concetta DiLiello and Giovanni Dolce. She was the youngest of four children. In May 1938, she married Pietrangelo Matteo Delvecchio in Ripabottoni.
Nettie immigrated to Canada in 1956 with her children to join her husband, who immigrated in 1948. They settled in Rainy River, ON, where Peter was employed by the CNR. She lived in Rainy River for 46 years before moving to Steinbach in 2003.
Nettie was most happy when her family was around. Her cooking and baking, especially chocolate chip cookies and buns, were a great favorite with her family and friends. Her house was always filled with friends dropping in for a visit and a cup of tea. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting afghans for family and friends. She made certain that every grandchild and great-grandchild received a special afghan.
Nettie was a devoted Catholic and was very active in the parish. She received recognition for her lifetime service to the Catholic Women’s League in a special ceremony in Rainy River in 2004.
Nettie will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Lina Pitre (Pete – deceased), Rocky Mountain House, AB, Tina Kaus (Don), Steinbach, Eva Savold (Steven), Baltimore, Maryland; sons Bill, Steinbach, and John (Laurie), Steinbach, and her sister Michelina Lanni of Montreal. Also missing her will be her 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband and two brothers.
The family wishes to thank home care and Bethesda Hospital staff and Dr. Horne for their kindness and support.
The funeral service took place Friday, September 19, at 2:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church, Rainy River, ON, with interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
