Hampton critical of Premier's McGuinty's view on jobs

Queen’s Park - NDP Leader Howard Hampton today hammered Dalton McGuinty over comments the Premier made about parts of Ontario’s manufacturing sector being dead.
“We are witnessing one of the biggest financial crises in history. Thousands of families across Ontario are losing their livelihoods and economic security each month. What’s Dalton McGuinty’s response? He’s throwing in the towel and giving up!” said Hampton.
“Dalton McGuinty needs to get serious about sustaining manufacturing jobs instead of talking about the death of manufacturing jobs in Ontario.”
Earlier today at the Premier’s weekly media scrum, he said the following on the economy: “There are parts of this economy, that I am absolutely convinced, are not coming back and we need to find a way working with industry and labour to strike out and find some new opportunities.”
When asked by a reporter what parts of the economy he was referring to, the Premier replied: “I think there’s no doubt that there’s some of our traditional manufacturing is being challenged.”
Rather than giving up like McGuinty has, Hampton has continued his relentless fight on behalf of Ontario’s manufacturing sector and the 240,000 manufacturing workers who have seen their jobs disappear over the past for four years.
Hampton has spent the past six months traveling across Ontario promoting the NDP’s job protection plan, which features: an industrial hydro rate; a “Buy Ontario” program; and a refundable manufacturing investment tax credit with added incentives for green investment.
“Ontarians are worried about the impact of this crisis on their jobs and their savings. Rather than standing up for Ontarians, Dalton McGuinty is telling them it’s too late and that nothing can be done. Workers and their families deserve better than that from their Premier. They deserve real solutions and leadership, not a defeatist attitude,” said Hampton.
