Marie Rose Johnson, 82
Marie Rose Johnson (Tetreault)
With family at her side, Marie Rose Johnson (Tetreault) passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Rainy River Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Rose (as she was known) was born on August 23, 1926 in Arbor Vitae, ON. She had lived all her life in the Rainy River area. Rose married Lawrence Johnson on September 15, 1943 and together they farmed north of Rainy River. Rose loved the farm and continued to live there after Lawrence passed away in November of 1984, but made the move to town 15 years ago. Rose had a green thumb which she put to use in her green house where she sold plants to people from all over the area. She took great pleasure in sharing her knowledge of how to grow everything she sold with those who bought from her. She was also very good at crafts and often showed how she could make something out of almost anything. She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time at the seniors depot and travelling. A few years back, she made a long trip to England to visit her pen-pal of 72 years. She was also an Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Major Hughes Branch No 54 in Rainy River.
Rose is survived by a very special nephew Alvin Tetreault and his wife Patsy of Foam Lake, Sask who was like a son to her. She is also survived by her brothers Louis (Jesse) Tetreault of Rainy River, Don (Kathy) Tetreault of Winnipeg, Whitey (Bernice) Tetreault of Grand Forks, B.C; her sister Adeline Kernatz of Rainy River as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence, sisters Eve, Victoria and triplets who passed away at birth, her brothers Joe, Blackie, Emery and Tony, sisters and brothers-in-law June, Vern, Patsy, Ole and Margaret Sletmoen, Ed and Ethel Sletmoen, Elof and Alma Johnson, Ernie Pariseau, Art Anderson and her parents Fred and Marie Tetreault.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Knox United Church in Rainy River. Reverend Barbara Miller officiated followed by interment in the McInnes Creek Cemetery.
