Beatrice Marie "Bea" Olinyk (nee Hawthorne), 91

Beatrice Marie ‘Bea” Olinyk, age 91 of 102 First St., Rainy River, Ontario passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Rainy River Health Centre in Rainy River, Ontario.
She was born June 6, 1917 in Spohn Township, Ontario to the late James and Mabel Hawthorne. Bea spent her early years growing up at home in Spohn Township. She later met and married Michael Olinyk on May 1, 1947. Bea lived all of her life in Northern, Ontario. She left Rainy River in 1952, and settled in Atikokan, and later moving to Sudbury and Thunder Bay, until her and Mike moved back to retire in Rainy River in 1972, where they remained until her passing. While in Thunder Bay, Bea worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Port Arthur for many years until illness forced her to retire. She was also very active and a life member of both the Moose Lodge and the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary. Her involvement in the R.C.L. Auxiliary carried on in Rainy River. She also was a member of the CWL and the Rainy River Activity Depot. In recent years, Bea was known as an avid card player and enjoyed her many times with friends and card partners at the card games at the Rainy River Activity Depot and in Baudette, Mn., and on Saturday at the Legion.
She was predeceased by her husband, Mike in 2000; son-in-law Gary Graham in 1997; daughter Nellie at birth; brothers Ken and Elmer Hawthorne; six brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law and one niece and three nephews.
Left surviving are daughter; Diane Graham of Fort Frances, ON., Son Terry Olinyk of Thunder Bay, ON.; grandsons, Mike and Greg Graham of Fort Frances, ON., Andy Olinyk of Regina, SK; sister Pearl (Ken) Mason of Rainy River, ON.; sister-in-laws Margaret Hawthorne, Mary Marmus, and Blanche Bernier all of Rainy River, ON., and Nellie Shybyski of Fort Frances, ON., brothers-in-law Clarence (Bernice) Olinyk of Rainy River, ON.; and very dear friends Phil (Chipper) and Evelyn Bourre and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Rainy River, Ontario. Father Dan Debano will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River, Ontario.
Parish prayers will be offered at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Rainy River, Ontario.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Mike and Greg Graham, and nephews, Billy and Barry Marmus and Shane and Earl Ivall.
Honourary pallbearers will be Chipper and Evelyn Bourre, Winnie Bernard, Ruth Huntley and Rose Lalle and all her many friends at cards.
