The Rainy River High School class of 2001 graduated with new millennium techo-style last Wednesday evening!
Valedictorian Lisa Shumaker stole the show using modern technology in her address to the audience and classmates. She put together a video showing photos of each graduate from when they entered high school to graduation. It was projected on a big screen in front of the graduates and was a huge hit with the audience.
She also spoke of all the great memories that they had accumulated together and how they will serve as flash-points in their lives to instantly bring them back to RRHS.
Her advice to the class was capped off with the following quote, "Life is what you make of it so have a blast!"
Outgoing principal Don McBride commended the class of 2001 for being full of determination. He noted that when faced with no extracurricular activities the class took the bull by the horns and hosted an awesome haunted house, a banquet, intramurals and a magnificent prom.
McBride said their attitudes should help them get through life successfully.
"The longer I live the more I realize how important attitude is," said McBride. School Board Trustee Ron McAlister brought the best wishes of the school board and offered the following advice.
"Goals determine your thoughts, thoughts determine your life, whatever you commit to mind, is yours forever."
School Council Chair Heidi Ivall told the grads to follow their dreams. School Board Superintendant Warren Hoshizaki and Trustee McAlister teamed up to present Academic Achievement Awards.
Some 40 bursaries and scholarships were presented by various groups and businesses. Eight Proficiency awards were presented to grade 12 and OAC students.
