Rainy River area to be bustling with Christmas fun this weekend

The Christmas spirit will invade Rainy River this weekend with activities beginning Friday morning and running until Monday evening.
Friday morning Rainy River High School will be hosting a Christmas Pancake Breakfast at the school from 8-10 a.m. School board Superintendant Jack McMaster will be there cooking along side Principal and Vice-principal Jim Chorney and Don McBride. All proceeds will go towards the Courtyard renovation project at the school.
Friday evening the annual Rainy River Santa Claus Parade of Lights will be held. At 5:45 p.m. Mayor Debbie Ewald will officially light the town Christmas tree just north of Gillon’s Insurance. Following that there will be the annual parade of lights beginning at the base of Main St. at 6 p.m. The parade will go up Main St. to True Value/The Source/Sears. It will turn east from there and finish at the Rec. Centre where Santa will visit with children and have a goodie bag for each of them. There will also be free public skating at the arena at 7:30 p.m.
$225 in cash prizes are being offered for the best floats in the parade. There are several already registered. To enter a float contact Meghan Shanks at the Rec. Centre 852-4446.
On Saturday McInnes Creek Chapel will host their annual Christmas dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. A Christmas program will follow at 7:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
Sunday afternoon one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the RR Hospital Auxiliary will be held at Rainy River Rec. Centre at 2 p.m. There will be a bakeless bake table, penny tables and plenty of fun for everyone!
Sunday evening the Rainy River Community Choir will be holding their first Christmas concert at the Pinewood Catholic Church at 7:30 p.m. They will hold their second and final concert on Monday evening at the Rainy River Catholic Church at 7:30 p.m.
The entire weekend promises to be a great kick-off to the Christmas season and the public is invited to participate in all the events.
