Morson’s own bass champions were among the elite finishers at the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship over the weekend.
John and Reuben Gibbins, last year’s Morson Bass Classic winners, finished a very respectable 8th out of a field of 133 teams. They had a three day total of 48.14 lbs. That was well below the top team which hails from Sioux Narrows but it was still enough to earn them $3,500 in prize money.
Norm Lindsay and Jess Swenson, both top bass tournament anglers in the past, brought in 55.72 lbs. of bass to win the tournament. They received $25,000 for top spot.
Rounding out the top ten was 2nd-Mike Luhman and Mark Raveling, 53.9 lbs.-$15,000; 3rd-Jim Moynagh and Joe Thrun, 53.01 lbs.-$10,000; 4th-Scott Cook and Jerry Millar, 51.42 lbs.-$7,500; 5th-Doug and Zack McBride, 49.36 lbs.-$5,000; 6th-Scott Ourada and John Allen, 48.92 lbs.-$4,500; 7th-Corey Curtis and Chad Hanson, 48.26 lbs.-$4,000; 9th-Ron and Daniel Lindner, 47.7 lbs.-$3,000; 10th-Roger and Dorese Harrison, 45.39 lbs.-$2,600.
Other notables, from Stratton and Kenora, Ted and Leo Heyens finished 36th with 37.8 lbs. and last year’s Rainy River walleye tournament champ, Dale Labelle of Devlin, finished 41st with 37 lbs.
