Red Hatters celebrate Christmas

By Susan Douglas
RR Red Hat Society

On Tues. Dec. 9th, Les Rouge Rogues installed a new member (much to her surprise), and dubbed by Queen La Diva (Susan Douglas) and her Vice Queen Linda (Budreau) as “Honorary Queen Dame Dot Dolittle,” (Dorothy Norlund). The Honorary Queen had a red hat placed on her head, and was struck with a glittery star sceptre, & purple feathers, as she was sworn in. The girls fumbled for the black stone ring of finery to place on Dame Dot’s pinkie before heading out the door in a flash, to attend Lady Eleanor’s , (Eleanor Wiersema’s) Christmas party, leaving a bewildered Dorothy.
Twenty two ladies arrived in their red and purple regalia with guest of honour being Janet Schaaf, celebrating a very special birthday! The tables were set with little purple boxes of chocolates, amidst the red & purple grapes for the “Italia, It’s a Tuscan Feast”, festivities. Following grace by Countess Shutterbug, (Lou Ricci), the red hatters lined up at the Italian buffet, catered by the Evangelical Women’s group. A toast was made by Queen La Diva with the Sparkling Duck (non alcoholic) to “peace on earth!” Following the meal, Janet was surprised with a birthday lit cheesecake and gifts from her friends. Lolly, Linda’s mascot, came decked out with grapes & mini wine bottles for the occasion and sat with the group’s new china doll mascot, Queen Isabella. Mini chocolate mice morsels created by Sandy from (the Cut Above) were picked up by their tails & devoured by the ladies. After retiring to the downstairs family room the girls enjoyed comical readings by Lady Dolly of La Tea Da, (Dawn Jarvis) along with a musing challenge by the Queen to “keep the insanity” in the new year. Queen La Diva then played a couple games of Mr. and Mrs. Wright with prizes. Lady Lizbeth, (Nancy Fretter), won the nutcracker door prize and Enid Peters won a calendar. Lady Linda created poinsettia ornaments for each lady, and the Wpg. Convention girls also received free red hat calendars. Countess Shutterbug handed each lady an exchange gift to open, which was followed by Christmas Carols, accompanied by Governess of Guitar, (Charlene Gustafson.) Every lady received a scented candle in a tin and drew another gift before a closing prayer was read by Lady Trillium, (Donna Moen).
