Guy Crackel wins an unprecedented 5th Rainy River Open title

Guy Crackel made Rainy River Open history Monday when he won an unprecedented fifth time.
Only two others have won it four times, his brother Glen and Bill Delvecchio.
The 29th Rainy River Open was held at the Oak Harbour Golf Course in Baudette, Minnesota and had 67 participants. 46 of which were men, 17 were women and four were youth.
Crackel won with a score of 81 by two strokes over 2nd place finisher Wally Duggan. Tying for third in the Championship Flight was Glen Crackel and Shane Aikenhead with 86.
Taking home top spot for the ladies was Sherrin Forster (nee Tetu) of Edmonton, AB. She had a score of 81. Coming in second was defending ladies champion Cheryl Duggan with a 95. Jean Bernst came in third with 102.
In the Men’s First Flight it was Roman Stoyko with 83, Jim Crackel with 86 and Barry Lamoureux with 87.
In the Men’s Second Flight Don Gale won on a count back with a 90. Al Pratt came in 2nd with 90 and Ryan Lamoureux came in third with 93.
In the Ladies Second Flight Pat Morgan came in first with 116, Carla Armstrong second with 117 and Sonia Hosfield came in third with 119.
In the Men’s Third Flight Vaughn Murray was top with 93, Richard Armstrong second with 96 and Peter Osadchuk was third with 97.
In the Men’s Fourth Flight Gary Armstrong, Jr., a former tournament champion, came in first with 100 and George Pratt and Bud Hannam came in third with a score of 104.
In the Youth Flight Cam Kuzyk won with a 99 and Chad Armstrong came in second with a 105.
Closest to the Pin for women was Sherrin Forster and for men was Aaron Armstrong.
Longest Drive for women was Carla Armstrong and for men Vaughn Murray.
Longest Putt for women was Lee-Anne Morkin and for men was Don Gale.
Following the awards presentation at the Rainy River Legion, who donated the hall, long time organizers Rose and Gary Tetu and Jim Crackel, announced that they will be stepping down from their positions. Glen Armstrong said he would take over with some help from a few others present. He also took a poll of those present and it was decided to move the tournament next year to Warroad Estates Golf and Country Club.
