Margaret Govier, 83
On Monday January 12, 2009 at the La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont, Margaret Govier passed away at the age of 83 years.
Margaret was born in Wingham, Ont, on May 12, 1925 to the late Alfred and Annie Nesbit and grew up on a family farm near Auburn, Ont. She was united in marriage to William (Bill) Govier on March 2, 1946 and they spent 61 years together before Bill died on August 4, 2007.
The couple farmed, trucked and logged in Huron and Perth counties before moving “up north” to Burriss Township in 1962. After 4 years in Burriss, they moved to the outskirts of Emo and Marg took a job in the kitchen of Emo Red Cross Hospital where she stayed for twenty five years. Bill and Marg spent a lot of time traveling Western Canada visiting Charolais cattle breeders and were always proud to tell people they were from the Rainy River District.
Displaying Govier’s Petting Zoo at local functions, and practicing the art of Traditional Rug Hooking were two of Marg’s retirement activities. She was a member of the local Rug Hooking Guild and was interested in preserving the heritage of the craft. She was also a member of the Rainy River Valley Fair Board, the Women’s Institute and St. George’s Anglican Church Women.
In the last few years she derived much pleasure from her visits with the nurses in the Hemodialysis Unit at La Verendrye Hospital and the family is grateful for all the care and comfort they brought to her life.
Margaret was predeceased by sister Mary Gray, and brothers Lawrence and Frank Nesbit.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Linda (Stan) Armstrong of Sleeman, Ont, and sons Tom (Gail) of Emo, Ont, and Herb (Donna) of Sleeman, Ont. Granny will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Jennifer (Dave), Corrie (Emma), Sarah, Lisa (Ryan), Russell, Jim and great grandchildren Evan, Keira, Dillon and Olivia. She is survived by sister-in-law Mary Nesbit.
Family and friends were received at the Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, Ont on Friday January 16, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. where funeral service was held on Saturday January 17, 2009 at 1 p.m. Rev. Eileen Bragg officiated. Interment will take place in Emo Cemetery at a later date. Marg’s pall bearers were her grandchildren and their spouses.
If desired memorial donations may be made the Hemodialysis Unit at La Verendrye Hospital or the St. George’s Anglican Church, C/O Northridge Funeral Home, P.0. Box 89, Emo, Ontario P0W 1E0.

Fulfilment
I have worked in the fertile earth and planted a garden,
so I know what faith is.
I have listened to the birds carolling in the early morning and at dusk, so I know what music is.
I have seen the morning without clouds after showers, so I know what beauty is.
I have sat before a wood fire with old friends, so I know what companionship is.
I have walked the paths of quietness along the forest floor, so I know what peace is.
I have dwelt in the valley of remembrance and on the hills of home, so I know what love is.
I have seen the miracle of spring, the fruition of summer, and the beauty of autumn,
Followed by the repose of winter, so I know what life is.
And because I have perceived all these things, I know what God is.
