RR Commercial taxes too high

Here is a letter I just sent to Howard Hampton....where does the gouging end?

Dear Mr. Hampton,
I just did a study on commercial tax rates througout Ontario. I was appalled at the fact that the combination of municipal and education taxes for my town are as much as 37.5% higher than some other communities in Ontario. I understand that the municipal taxes are set by the municipality. Apparently the education taxes are set by the provincial goverment. Why is it I’ve found that my education taxes are almost 50% higher than another community. ie. Rainy River Education Tax rate=.01976921 versus Minto Ontario=.01319713 which is a 49.8% difference. Why such a disparity? Toronto’s combined rates are .041197431. Rainy River’s are .04315427 which is a 4.75% difference. So apparently it costs more to own a commercial building in Rainy River than Downtown Toronto. I could go on and on regarding the numbers, Rainy River is a town on the brink of commercial disaster. As it is, we’ve continually lost business in this town, if something isn’t done soon my business may be next. Is there any kind of relief for a small Northern Ontario business just trying to keep the doors open?
