As of 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, residents of Rainy River should be boiling their tap water before consuming it.
The Northwestern Health Unit issued a BOIL WATER ADVISORY late Friday afternoon when it was determined that the community's water may be unsafe.
"The Northwestern Health Unit has determined that the safety of the drinking water cannot be guaranteed. Until the safety of the water supply can be assured, all water should be boiled for at least one minute if used for human consumption."
The Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until NWHU rescinds it.
"The Boil Water Advisory is due to inadequate treatment," said the NWHU Friday.
