Les Rouge Rogues, arrived at the Roadside Restaurant, Tues. Feb. 24th for their annual Valentine Party. Sixteen ladies arrived in their finest regalia, glitz & glam, boas and pearls, with the intent on having fun! Lady Carolina Rose, (Carolyn Kreger) asked the blessing.
The Roadside did a creative task of decorating with a Valentine theme, and served up an appetizing meal which was topped off with a scrumptious cheesecake by Lady Dolly of La Tea Da, (Dawn Jarvis.)
Some of the red hatters brought treasures to “show and tell”. Lady Trillium, (Donna Moen), was sporting an heirloom from her mother in the form of sparkly ‘Sherman’ rhinestone jewellery, one of the finest imitations in it’s day. Dawn, was wearing her own silver charm bracelet, along with a man’s ring, one she’d given her husband Jim, when they were dating, years ago. Red Baroness, (Ruth Bynkoski) brought a gold wedding band with 5 gorgeous opals belonging to her maternal grandmother and now handed on to daughter Susan. Duchess of Dawson, (Jessie Bodnarchuk) wore a gold watch, a gift from her husband, John, on their 40th wedding anniversary. A gold nugget necklace, created from her wedding band was worn by Lady of Good Heart, (Verna Barsy); while Lady Round to It, (Elsie Gerula) displayed a collection of hummingbird brooches, one of which was a wooden creation by a B.C. artist. The ladies ooed and awed over Carolyn’s old family wedding ring collection and heart pin, and were wowed by Lady Doolittle, (Elsie Morrison’s) exquisite Amber knotted bead necklace from China. Wearing a rose pin that belonged to her beloved Mother in law, Lady Helena of Troy, (Helen Kellner),also displayed her mother’s butterfly pin. Duchess of Wilson Creek, (Bev Langner) presented a lovely 1917 necklace of amethyst and pearls belonging to her grandmother. Vice Queen, Linda displayed a signet ring and heart pin. Lastly, Queen Susan, exhibited a Mother of Pearl Cameo pin, with Mt. Vesuvius stones set in silver, she’d bought in Italy in 1971, a gift for her mother. Susan also wore a copper bracelet with heart lock and key she received at age 18 yrs., a gift from her mother, Dorothy. Her mom had received the bracelet on her 18th birthday from her brother. Indeed all the ladies enjoyed viewing the treasures of one another. The red hatters then broke out their official musical instruments, (kazoos) for their rendition of Happy Birthday to girls, Carolyn, Jessie and Lou Ricci.
Lady Dolly of La Tea Da gave two humorous readings entitled, ‘What type is your bra?’ along with, ‘Beware of This Strange Old Lady Who May be In Your House!’ The door prize gift basket of goodies was won by Red Baroness. Other prizes were distributed to winners, Jessie, Susan, Elsie Morrison, and Helen. Dawn had us laughing by telling us she’d ordered “diet water” in a Kenora Restaurant. It was one of the many challenges the Queen gave the girls for the new year.
Announcements concluded the evening. Susan handed out information of contests for our 50’s weekend in Minneapolis May 1-3rd. Our next Rendez-vous is “Julia Caesar” play and Toga Party, Tues.
