Natural gas explosion averted in Rainy River
On Monday March 16 2009 about 3:30 p.m. the Rainy River Volunteer Fire Dept. was called out at 411 First Ave. to the home of Mrs. Beatrice Nault.
Mrs. Nault was not home at the time. A person walking by the front of the house smelled natural gas and also saw bubbles coming out of the ground in the wet driveway.
Rainy River Fire Dept. unlocked the back door and let Union Gas company officials inside first.
A small amount of natural gas was found inside the home.
A main natural gas line in front of the house was broken by ground frost. The Natural gas line was apparently leaking for some time and had just started to migrate inside the Nault’s home.
Rainy River Fire Dept. ventilated the house and the gas company made repairs to the broken line. The fire dept. said a natural gas explosion was averted and issued reminder to all residents of Rainy River, “If any one suspect a natural gas leak in there home or next door. You are to call 911 for help.”
