Sis Wilson crowned Emo Fair Queen

At the Queen Talent Show and Crowning of the 2002 District Agricultural Society, on Thursday evening held at Emo LaVallee Community Centre, Sis Wilson, a grade 12 student at FFHS and sponsored by Jackie Champagne from the Roseberry Runway at Barwick came out on top as the Queen for 2002.
All smiles, and somewhat thrilled at the same time, 2001 Queen Kelly Nielson, handed over the crown and gown to Wilson.
Brandy Hyatt and Krista Kellar respectively captured first and second Princess honours. Miss Congeniality winner was Jade Allan.
The girls had to compete in various categories. Wilson tied for 1st in the Banner, took 3rd in the fashion, 2nd in her float and 3rd in entertainment in the dance routine entitled “Do You Love Me”.

Six candidates were vying for the Mini Queen/King Crown. Joleigh Hayes emerged as Queen and Cameron Turriff walked off with the King’s Jewellery, Michelle Medwechuk interviewed each girl and boy.
Stratton Centennial Committee was on hand to display historical photographs of buildings in the Morley and Patullo areas. Dianne Stafford said, “The Stratton Centennial Committee is celebrating its Centennial in 2003,” one of the projects for this celebration is the making of a Recipe and Remedy book featuring remedies and recipes from the early settlers and residents of the area.
“We are interested in any recipes or remedies that may have been passed down from your parents or grandparents over the years” she added. Any info included in the book must be at least 65 years old. Any stories or ideas on early living would also be appreciated. Some of these could include healing, farming, logging, house building, land clearing, cooking, spices, foods, teas, sewing and gardening. Don Marquis CN employee at Rainy River and Constable Peter LeDrew of CN Police of Risk Management gave out pamphlets on making safety first. Operation Lifesaver program of Railway Association of Canada and Transport Canada in cooperation with the Provincial Safety Councils.
