Robert William (Bobbie) Kreger, 78

Robert William (Bobbie) Kreger

On Monday April 20, 2009, Bobbie age 78 passed away peacefully at Rainy River Hospital with family by his side.
Bobbie was born on January 9, 1931 in Rainy River to Martin and Lena Kreger of Harris Hill, Ontario. Bobbie grew up on the shore of Lake of the Woods and developed a love for the lake. He always found time to hunt and fish with his brother Audie between work and chores on the family farm. Bobbie worked across Canada, spending time in Biggar, Sk. with the C.N., Atikokan, ON. at the Steeprock mine, then Sicamous, 100 mile house and Telkwa, B.C. trapping and logging. He then returned to Alberta to work with his brother Dan building grain elevators. It was here that Bobbie discovered his love of carpentry. After several years Bobbie returned to Rainy River and began his carpentry trade. A few years after his return, Bobbie was working in Morson, ON where he met the love of his life, Maureen Swenson. On November 16, 1963 they were married and on September 3, 1971 Bobbie and Maureen announced the arrival of their only son Gregory. Bobbie loved the outdoors. He trapped and commercial fished on Lake of the Woods in the winter and continued with a prosperous carpentry business. He loved to hunt, fish, play cards and spend time with family and friends. Bobbie was a friend to all who knew him and visits would be greeted with a smile and a hot cup of coffee. He always had advice for those who sought it and would tell you what he thought whether it was what you wanted to hear or not.
Bobbie’s first grandaughter, Skyler arrived June 6, 2004 with second granddaughter Tamberly arriving June 3, 2008. Skyler and Tamberly were the apples of grampa’s eye. With kisses, hugs and shenanigans, they always put a smile on his face and kept him on his toes. Bobbie’s only regret was that Maureen was not there to share the girls with him. On April 12, 1997, after a 2 year battle with cancer, Bobbie lost his wife and partner Maureen. His faithful companion Sam would follow in January of 2009. Bobbie was diagnosed with cancer in December 2008. He handled the diagnosis like a true champion. After four months of sheer strength and determination, his fight ended and he has now journeyed to rejoin Maureen, Sam, his brothers, sisters and friends.
Bobbie was predeceased by wife Maureen, parents Martin and Lena (nee Landgraff) Kreger, brothers Albert, John, Daniel, and Adolph(Audie), sisters Ella, Tillie, Olga, Evelyn, Annabel, Edith and Pearl.
He will be sadly missed by his son Greg and wife Tiffany (nee Almquist) Kreger, granddaughters Skylar and Tamberly Kreger of Kakabeka Falls, sister Elsie (Bob) Ewald of Rainy River, sister in law Margaret Kreger (Audie) of Bergland and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held on April 24, 2009 at the Knox United Church in Rainy River. Lay Pastor Carolyn Kreger officiated accompanied by the Ionic Lodge #461. Interment took place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River, Ontario.
