MABEL ANN ABBOTT
Peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the Rainy River Hospital, Mabel Ann Abbott of Rainy River passed away at the age of 89.
Mabel was born April 15, 1920 in the district of Forgue in the country of Aberdeen (Scotland) to the late Annie & Donald Wilson.
Mabel married Gar Abbott June 15, 1936 and together they raised five children. They farmed until 1965 and then they moved to Sioux Narrows and from then on Mabel cooked at Restaurants and camps. They bought a cafe in Rainy River which they ran for a few years, then sold. Then she went back to cooking in a restaurant in Nestor Falls until she retired. Mabel was a member for 26 years of the Legion in Rainy River where she loved to go to play cribbage with family and friends, she was a Moose member for 20 years and enjoyed outings to various Casino in the area.
Mabel is survived by her daughter Jennette Cross, son Donald Abbott of Logan Lake, B.C. Brother Don Wilson of Calgary, AB. son-in-law Bob Johnston, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mabel was predeceased by her parents Annie & Don Wilson, stepfather Alex Hood, husband Gar Abbott, son Cecil Abbott, daughters Jean Halcro and Linda Johnston, sister and brother-in-law Ollie & Enio Maki, great grandson Zander Lachance, grandson Nick Irwin, grand daughter Jeannie Halcro, great grandson Donovan Halcro.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
