Newly renovated Emo Health Centre officially opened last Wednesday

Last Wednesday was a great day for the Grand Opening of the Emo Health Centre. Scores of people from throughout the district came out to view the new state of the art facilities. It features new furniture, kitchen equipment, lounge, a two-way security camera, front desk renovations which look refreshing and spacious.
Master of ceremonies Wayne Wood, CEO of Riverside Health Care Facility, welcomed everyone. Bagpiper Robert Barkely led local VIP to the entrance prior to opening remarks. Wayne Wood thanked everyone who helped get the facility up and running. Nurse Manager of Emo Health Centre, Edith Bodner, had a few words of encouragement in which she included former Nurse Manager Norma Elliott, who had put a lot of her time into the project.
A number of presentations were made from the following: Audrey Anderson on behalf of MP Robert Nault, Kenora-Rainy River District MPP Howard Hampton; Reeve Russ Fortier; and Maureen Judge representing Ministry of Health. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony included Edith Bodner, Russ Fortier, Howard Hampton, Maureen Judge and Wayne Woods. Chairman of Riverside Foundation for Health Care, Jim Krag unveiled the donor wall of dedication and memorials that is located in the hallway facing the main entrance.
Room dedications then followed with chair of Care Close to Home campaign Committee John McTaggart officiating.
Urgent Care Examination room - Marni Hodge representing Voyageur Panel Limited received the room dedication plaque. Lounge and Activity Centre was received by Reeve Russ Fortier Township of Emo. Front Entrance - Councillor was received by Peter VanHeyest & Reeve Cecil Wilson representing Township of Chapple. Main Lobby Plaque was received by Ted & Ynske Kaemingh and family. Rehabilitation Services Emo and Area Hospital Auxiliary - plaque was received by Dorothy Haines on behalf of Auxiliary members. Family room dedication plaque was received by Cindy Judson on behalf of M.C. Judson Trucking Ltd., Radiology dedication was received by Councillor Frieda Carmody representing the Township of LaVallee. The Quiet Room dedication plaque was received by Joseph W. Parris in memory of Helen Parris.
An emotional moment, tribute to Dr. John O’Sullivan was given by Sylvia Hyatt who read two appropriate poems entitled, “The Country Doctor” and, “Doctor John”. The Long Term Wing was dedicated to the memory of Dr. John O’Sullivan. Receiving the plaque was Gertie O’Sullivan, daughter Derrick, James O’Sullivan and daughter Sarah. Craig Sanders, Chair of Riverside Health Care Facilities made the presentation and gave closing remarks. He recognized all volunteers, thanked everyone for their efforts in making the facility a reality “one that we’re all proud of.
Prayer of Dedication was rendered by Knox United Church minister at Emo, Rev Frances Flook. After the ceremony and viewing the interior of the facility, refreshments were served under the tent next to the Emo Health Centre.
