District kids hop, run and jump at Rainy River track meets

As the weather continued to improve last week area elementary schools gathered in Rainy River for their annual track and field meets.
On Tuesday it was the intermediate meet with students from Riverview (Rainy River), McCrosson-Tovell (Bergland), Donald Young (Emo), Sturgeon Creek (Barwick), Our Lady of the Way (Stratton) and Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program (Stratton) competing.
Here are the results by school:
1st-Riverview 204 pts.
2nd-Sturgeon Creek 120 pts.
3rd-Donald Young 97 pts.
4th-SCAP 93 pts.
5th-OLW 48 pts.
6th-McCrosson-Tovell 1 pt.
For Riverview it was the grade seven girls that stole the show. They dominated the competition bringing home 82 of the school’s 204 pts.
For Sturgeon Creek it was their grade eight girls who earned 58 of their school’s 120 pts.
Donald Young’s strength came form its grade eight boys who notched 44 of their school’s 97 pts.
SCAP’s strongest showing was by its grade eight boys as well who racked upt 37 or their 93 pts.
For OLW it was their grade seven boys who shone with 23 of their school’s 48 pts.
Top medal winners for the intermediate meet were:
Grade seven boys-Jeff Lauzon (Riv.) 15 pts.
Grade seven girls-Skylar Arpin (Riv.) 20 pts.
Grade eight boys-Tyrell Chojko-Bolec (OLW) and Ian Friesen (SCAP) tied with 17 pts.
Grade eight girls-Emily Fraser (Riv.) 20 pts.
Junior Track Meet
The junior track meet was held on Thursday with competitors from Riverview, McCrosson, Donald Young, Sturgeon Creek, Our Lady of the Way, Crossroads and SCAP.
Here are the results by school:
1st-Riverview 143 pts.
2nd-Sturgeon Crk. 131 pts.
3rd-Crossroads 101 pts.
4th-Donald Young 98 pts.
5th-SCAP 73 pts.
6th-OLW40 pts.
7th-McCrosson 6 pts.
The strongest showing for Riverview was the grade five girl with 40 pts. but most of their grades had good showings.
Sturgeon Crk. was well rounded with grade four and five girls earning 30 an 33 pts. respectively and the gr. five boys marking 30 pts. on the score bd.
For Crossroads it was their grade six girls that had their strongest showing with 35 pts.
Donald Young’s grade four and six girls topped their charts with 26 and 25 pts. respectively.
SCAP’s grade four and six boys did well with 20 and 22 pts. respectively.
OLW also had a strong gr. four boys contingent with 20 pts.
