By Ruth Brett
LoW W.I.
The Lake of the Woods (Bergland) Women’s Institute held our last meeting of the season on June 10th at Buena Vista. Six members enjoyed a delicious dinner and had a nice relaxing visit before a short business meeting.
Marjorie Meek chaired the meeting in the absence of President Ellen Chojko-Bolec.
The membership heard from the Thinking of You (TOY) committee. A Museum “wish list” - articles that are needed to complete the displays of the general store, tool shed, school, church, laundry/sewing room, living room, bedroom and kitchen - was passed around.
Tickets for the $1000.00 worth of groceries from Cloverleaf Store in Emo will be drawn at 4pm on Friday, June 19th at Cloverleaf. The tickets will be sold at the store until draw time on Friday, so those who have not bought their tickets yet will still have a chance to get some.
Margaret Helder, with the help of granddaughter Paige Anderson, Marjorie Meek and Ruth Brett have planted the flowers in the cemetery gardens keeping their fingers crossed that there will be no more frosts.
On Saturday, June 27th, the day of our Pie Sale at the school in Bergland, there will be a large yard sale in Morson at the store parking lot with the proceeds going to the Lake of the Woods Volunteer Firefighters. Both events start at 9am.
Plans were discussed and firmed up for the Family Fun Days in August. This year the Dunk Tank will be back and “dunkees” are already recruited. Kid’s games are being planned by an excellent, weird and wonderful team. All we need now are pledges for “Cuts for Cancer” and “Walk, Run, Ride” and judges for the Chili Pots.
Seven members registered for the WI Area Convention, which will be held in October in Rainy River.
Members entertained the idea of having a picnic at the new municipal park but have learned
that it isn’t quite ready for visitors yet. It is on our “to do” list.
Our Branch does not hold meetings during the summer months so our next meeting will be in September.
The ladies have a break from meetings for the summer months and begin again in September.
