Frank Stoyka, 76
The family of Frank Joseph Stoyka is saddened to announce his passing on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 33 years, Patricia (Jaculak), and his one and only daughter Jennifer Lynn of whom he was so very proud. He is also survived by his brother Mike Ponchuk (Alma) of Estevan, SK, and sister Stella Ponchuk of Windsor, ON.
Frank was a very honest man of high moral integrity. He loved the outdoors, was an avid gardener, and took great pride in maintaining a beautiful yard.
Frank was well-known throughout the district as the “Bedpanjo Man” after crafting a unique musical instrument from a stainless steel bedpan. This invention won Frank and Pat a spot as special guests on Arthur Black’s final show at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.
Frank was born in Arbor Vitae, February 15, 1933, in the very house he lived in his entire life. He worked out of his home as a Radio & TV repairman for many years. In the early 60’s he ‘briefly’ broadcast a slightly illegal radio station for local neighbours: “Station G.I.N - The Breath of Arbor Vitae.”
Until his retirement in 1996, Frank had been employed by the MNR for 23 years as a Maintenance Foreman at Caliper Lake Provincial Park.
Frank’s strong faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses gave him hope and comfort in God’s promise of the resurrection. “He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces...” Isaiah 25:8
A memorial service for family and friends will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, ON.
