SCAP holds grad ceremony

Vice Principal Kendal Olson welcomed the audience to Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program 2001 graduation ceremonies held Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at Sturgeon Creek School Gym. Olson led in Prayer and introduced each item on the evening’s Agenda.

Don Ricci provided a Multi Media presentation reflecting on each of the graduates life from the cradle to the graduation. Graduates from Grade 12 were Jodi Barker, Jaclyn Hart, Clara Linda Krikke, Simeon Nussbaumer, Johannes Jasper VanZwol, Carrie Vargyus-VenHeyst. Grade 8 graduates were Anthony Boersma, Alicia Boven, Bethany Friesen, Kevin Friesen, Kathryn Goodman, Grace MacGibbon, Jonathan Mast, Jason Peters, Carly Smart, Michael Veldhuisen.

The Graduating Class entered the gym to the tradition Processonal Pomp and Circumstance. Ron McAlister brought greetings from the Rainy River District School Board and extended congratulations to the students on their achievements. Simeon Nussbaumer, student council President, delivered a speech reflecting on the students accomplishments.

Grade 8 Valedictorians Alicia Brown and Jason Peters delivered addresses of encouragement which were humorous and serious.

Senior Valedictorian message was given by Jodi Barker and her classmates. Presentation of Ontario Secondary school diploma’s was done by Norma Rempel. Principal Jerry O’Leary and Vice Principal Olson handed out Grade 8 certificates. Later in the program, Shauna McInerney and Jodi Barker presented special music.

Presentation of awards was as follows. Top Academic students of the year were: grade 9 - Ryan McInerney; grade 10 - C. Whatley; grade 11 - Debbie Friesen and grade 12 - Clara Linda Krikke. Several students also received certificates for being on the honour roll. Recognition for outstanding achievement in arts was presented to Jaclyn Hart. Student leadership award was won by Jodi Barker and Simeon Nussbaumer. Bursaries presented: SCAP Faculty - Johannes Van Zwol and Carrie Vargyas-VenHeyst; CPA Christian Parents - Clara Krikke; Rainy River District Milk Producers presented by Arnold Kaemingh (H) to Johannes VanZwol; T.J. Kaemingh & Sons presented by Arnold Kaemingh to Jodi Barker; Emo Feed Service presented by John Gerber to Jodi Barker.

Finalizing the program was the Grade 11 worship team who presented two musical selections. Congregational singing was led by Pianist Marina Gerber and daughter Heidi Gerber. Presentations were made to Principal Jerry O’Leary who will be retiring.
