Rainy River Public Library recently hired an assistant librarian with experience that is sure to help improve the facility.
Michael Dawber began working Monday and Friday at the library as an assistant to Librarian Sheila McIntosh. Dawber was a librarian for 10 years in Southwestern Ontario. But that is not the experience that lead him to this region.
After his decade as a public librarian he took a job as a librarian at a health unit in Southern Ontario. He also is a published author of several books including the co-writing of the history of Quetico Park a little over a decade ago. “I loved this region and knew that some day I would like to return to work here.”
A job for an office manager at the Emo Northwestern Health Unit saw the light bulb go on for Dawber. He was heading back to NWO and little did he know but his love for libraries would soon be a part of the big move here.
Dawber who hails from just outside of Kingston (Ripley, Ont.) said he decided to settle in Devlin. “I soon discovered that many of those who settled the Devlin area were from near my hometown.”
Then, like it was meant to be, a job at the Rainy River Public Library was advertised. “I’d say it was good karma,” said Dawber who immediately sought the position and soon was awarded it.
He has a degree in journalism as well as a library management certificate. That coupled with his past work experiences he feels like he has the world in front of him. “I love to ask and answer questions. I love to help people. This (the library and NWHU) is a perfect fit.”
Dawber is extremely happy with the new location the library recently moved into and also the quality of the inventory. “This library has a strong collection and strong support from the community.”
Dawber has several books to his credit and noted that they are in the collection at Rainy River Library.
The public is encouraged to come in and meet him and explore the Rainy River Library.
