Santa Claus is coming to town!
The big guy, a.k.a. Santa, has notified the Chamber of Commerce that he will be in Rainy River on November 29 at 6 p.m. sharp to participate in the annual Santa Clause Parade!
“Ho(w) ho(w) ho(w) could I miss it!” said Santa when asked how he managed to squeeze the visit into his busy schedule this time of year. “It is one of the best parades around!”
Several sponsors have jumped on board to make Santa’s visit a good one. Following the parade the Legion has donated the hall for kids to visit with him. The Legion as well as the Chamber and Recreation Board will be donating goodie bags for all the kids that visit Santa.
The Rainy River Lions Club has also graciously agreed to provide accommodations for Santa and Mrs. Claus during their stay. However, the location is being kept a secret to allow him ample rest before his next engagement.
The Parade will begin at 6 p.m. and floats are being sought from all community and church groups, businesses or individuals that would like to be in it. The enter a float call Glen Armstrong at 852-3886 or Ken Johnston at 852-3366 weekdays. Prizes for the best floats will be awarded.
The parade will begin at Hannam Park, travel up Main Street past the hospital and the business section. It will end at the Legion where the town Christmas tree will be lit. Afterwards the kids will be able to visit with Santa in the Legion Hall.
The Rainy River business community will also be holding its annual Christmas Merchant Madness days starting the morning of the 29th and continuing on Saturday the 30th. Plans are in the works for a great Christmas giveaway from the businesses so watch next week’s paper for details.
The weekend will also see a men’s hockey tournament take place at the arena and the annual Hospital Auxiliary Christmas Bazaar will round things off on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Legion Hall.
