OFSC issues warning to snowmobilers
OFSC News Release
Following several days of unexpectedly early winter weather, The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is warning snowmobilers that most snowmobile trails remain closed at this time. In many cases, local clubs have not completed trail opening preparations, which will now be delayed in some areas by the heavy snowfall. Please call your local club or click on ofsc.on.ca to check current trail condition reports before riding.
Snowmobilers are also warned that the early snow covering will act as an insulator to slow down the freeze up process and prevent the formation of good, solid ice. So just because ice may be covered with snow and look passable, does not mean it is safe to cross. The OFSC is asking riders to stay off of all water bodies and swamps until further notice.
Current conditions make it especially tempting to go for that first ride of the season, but snowmobilers are advised to exercise extreme caution and to think twice about going out at all until conditions improve and trails are open. Remember, snowmobiling is an off-road activity, so you always use OFSC trails at your own risk.
