Police investigate deer/motorcycle collision

On July 24, 2009 at approximately 1:00 pm, Fort Frances OPP officers were dispatched to a motorcycle collision involving a deer. The collision occurred on Mill Road just east of the Fort Frances overpass, when a male driver of a motorcycle was struck by a deer running onto the roadway. The male driver, a resident of Fort Frances, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to LaVerendrye Hospital by ambulance.
On July 25, 2009, just shortly after midnight, Fort Frances OPP officers responded to an incident at a local business. When officers arrived at the scene, investigation revealed that a male passenger received a ride from a local taxi company. Upon reaching his destination, the male exited the taxi but refused to pay the fare. The driver of the taxi followed the male inside the business to further inquire about payment when an altercation took place between the driver and male passenger. Police responded and the male was arrested. Officers lodged the male in police custody and charged the male with being intoxicated in a public place.
On July 24th, 2009 just shortly after midnight, officers were called to the 700 block of Stewart Avenue in Fort Frances to investigate a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. A taxi cab was westbound in front of the Adventure Inn when the vehicle collided with a male walking along the roadway. The male pedestrian was transported to La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances and treated for non-life threatening injuries. He remained in hospital overnight for observation. The driver of the taxi was not injured.
Officers of the Fort Frances OPP are continuing the investigation into the collision.
As a result of a drug investigation by the Fort Frances OPP Drug Enforcement Section, police have seized over four pounds of cannabis marihuana, a substantial amount of cash and several firearms from a residence in LaVallee Township. The cannabis marihuana seized from the residence have an estimated street value of over $20,000. In addition to the investigation that took place at the residence in LaVallee, police have also seized 100 marihuana plants from property located on a lake north of Devlin, Ontario. The estimated street value of the plants is $100,000.
Brian McKinnon is the owner of both the residence in LaVallee and the property north of Devlin, Ontario. As a result of this investigation, Brian McKinnon is charged with the following criminal offences:

Production of a Controlled Substance
Trafficking a Controlled Substance
Careless Storage of a Firearm
Prohibited Possession of a Device
Three Counts of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

Brian McKINNON is scheduled to appear in Fort Frances Court on September 8, 2009.
