Rainy River gets $100,000 to help defray sewer costs
Editor’s Note: Rainy River is still waiting for final approval from the Ontario Disaster Relief Program. The Town is hoping ODRAP will pay the balance of the approximately $750,000 price tag to redo sewer lines after the June 2002 flood.
The Ernie Eves government will enhance the health, safety and quality of life for Rainy River residents by investing $100,000 to help improve the local sewage system, Northern Development and Mines Minister and Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) Chair Jim Wilson announced today.
“Our government is committed to supporting community infrastructure projects that support local priorities in northern communities,” said Wilson. “We will continue to invest in initiatives which respond to and promote public health in the North.”
The Town of Rainy River will replace 375 metres of sanitary sewer pipes on Sixth Street from Mill Street southward. This project is the first part of Phase 1 of a $2.7-million project planned for the next several years.
“I am pleased that the Ernie Eves government is providing much needed funding to help us meet our infrastructure needs and strengthen our community foundations,” said Rainy River Mayor Gordon Prost. “This project is a vital local priority that will greatly contribute to the well-being of our community and help create capacity for new economic growth.”
