LoW girls hockey team brings home silver from Roseau

Michael Mosher

There are 20 girls playing hockey for Lake of the Woods at the 15U A level. They range in age from 11-16.
The oldest skater had received an exemption from Minnesota Hockey to be able to play in non-district games.
Of the 20 girls on the team, 15 are from the U.S., while 5 are from Canada. Our team consists of Deanna Baron, Courtney Bitter, Rosalyn Boucha, Seneca Brown, Shantelle Davidson, Jessie Dodds, Brittany Fish, Anne Gillie, Ali Hasbargen, Amy Hasbargen, Sannie Hasbargen, Brittany Jasper, Meaghan Jasper, Samantha Lyon, Kristin Moen, Natalie Ramiller, Samantha Reinert, Danielle Rudd, Jackie Sorrels, and Katelyn Thompson.
At this point in the season, the team is 9-10. The important part of their record is that they are 6-1 in district play! The district consists of Warroad, Roseau, Bemidji, East Grand Forks, Thief River Falls, and Crookston. If t hey continue to play well in district games, it will improve their chances to advance in the post-season. Keep your fingers crossed!
The team travelled to Roseau for a tournament this past weekend where they faced East Grand Forks, Moorhead, and Roseau. LoW took second place!
Friday night LoW beat East Grand Forks 5-1. On Saturday they lost to Moorhead 3-1, and on Sunday they tied Roseau 1-1. Based on the tournament point system, Roseau would have had to win their game on Sunday vs. EGF by eight goals to take second place. They won by seven, so Lake of the Woods received the second place finish.
This weekend (Jan 10) is the first ever Lake of the Woods 15U home tournament! The team will host Fort Frances, Roseau, and Grand Rapids, with our first game of the weekend coming Friday night vs. Roseau at 6:15 pm. The public is encouraged stop by the arena and take in one or more of the games. The girls could use your support.
