The first charge was laid Monday in connection with the Northwestern Health Unit’s efforts to get rid of smoking in all work places within its jurisdiction.
Bill Limerick of the NWHU said Monday that inspectors have been out in the area “seeing what’s going on.”
Limerick said that most places are in compliance, but he did say that “many warning letters” have been sent out.
Limerick said that the first charge was against a Kenora business and that more charges would be going out this week. He would not name the business.
Offenders could face fines in excess of $5,000.
Inspectors were in Rainy River on Friday. There was no word as to whether any warning letters or charges would be laid against Rainy River employers.
