The curling teams have travelled away from home once a month to compete in NorWOSSA qualifiers.
These tournaments consist of three games played against three different teams. The first tournament was held in Fort Frances, the second was held in Atikokan, and the NorWOSSA playoffs will be held in Dryden on February 25th and 26th.
The boys curling team consists of five players: Trevor Bonot, Jason Seguin, Kevin Nordberg, Matt McQuaker, and Chris Armstrong. Trevor Bonot acts as skip for this team. The boys coach is Bryan Bonot.
The Girls team has four players: Heather McLean, Heidi Heyens, Giselle Bonot, and Keisha Brigham. Giselle Bonot acts as skip for this team. Their coach is June Bonot.
The first away game was on December 10th. The teams played Fort Frances, Dryden, and Atikokan. The boys defeated Fort Frances and Atikokan, but lost to Dryden. The second away game was played on January 13th. They again played Fort Frances, Atikokan, and Dryden. They also fell to Dryden again.
The girls beat Atikokan and Dryden, but lost to Fort Frances in their first away game. They finished in second place. As with their first tourney, they were defeated by Fort Frances during the second.
Both teams are going to NorWOSSA in February for a five game bon spiel. To win at NorWOSSA, the RRHS teams will have to win at least four of the five games.
“The boys won last year, and hope to win again. The girls are very excited about playing this year, and will put all of their energy into winning,” says skip Trevor Bonot. “The teams have played well enough to get by so far, but will have to put all of their energy into this and play even better to win at NorWOSSA.”
