Red Hatters travel to Waskish for the Big Bog Walk
By Linda Budreau
RR Red Hat Society
On September 29, a group of ladies headed out to Waskish, Minnesota to walk along the famous bog walk. It was a glorious fall day and the sun was shining brightly.
After the walk, we travelled to LaValla's Antique Shop in rural Baudette where we browsed among the many treasurers the shop had to offer. Several purchases were made and the ladies then headed to the Sportsman's Lodge for dinner. Queen La Diva gave the toast to us all and we sat down to enjoy our dinner.
In honour of Cancer month we all were decked out in various shades of pink. Lady Izzy (Janet Wolanicki) gave each lady a pink Avon Teddy Bear or a pink pashmina. Goodie bags were handed out; courtesy of the Northwestern Health Unit. Each contained an emery board, pen and some pamphlets on breast cancer.
Prizes were handed out for the most items of pink being worn. Two winners emerged, Lady Izzy (Janet Wolanicki) and The Duchess of Dawson (Jessie Bodnarchuk). These ladies each received a beautiful pin.
The door prize of delicious pink candies was won by Lady Eleanore (Eleanor Wiersema). A similar prize went to Lady Izzy for raising the most money for breast cancer research. Our grand total of donations to the Cancer Society can to over $400.00.
A special gift of a cancer candle was given to Lady of Deer Haven (Jean Lauzon) while Helen of Troy (Helen Kellner) was honoured with a cancer baseball cap for a significant birthday.
We welcome Becky Wood to Les Rouges Rogues at this event. Other September Events included a delicious vegetarian dinner held at the home of Lady Round To It (Elsie Gerula) on September 8th. We feasted on fresh corn, garden veggies cooked to perfection and a variety of salads. This was in conjunction with our book club; The Red Hat Book Worms. Many books were discussed and the ladies all went home with new authors to research.
Several ladies bedecked in red and purple rode in the Parade of Boats for the Rainy River Walleye Tournament on September 24th. They enjoyed tossing candies to the children and bestowing "Red Hat" waves to the crowd who lined the streets of Rainy River to welcome the fishermen.
